A bit about the Headliner – Bluesmen don’t come more accomplished than the dudes in MONKEYJUNK. Singer/guitarist and harp player Steve Marriner, drummer Matt Sobb, and guitarist Tony D is precisely the kind of corker you’d expect from a trio of musical veterans who, between them, have boosted luminaries from Fabulous Thunderbird Kim Wilson to Buddy Guy, the late Jeff Healey to the lamented Stevie Ray Vaughan. MonkeyJunk has won a collective 21 Maple Blues Awards, two Canadian Independent Music Awards, a Blues Music Award (USA) in 2010 for best new artist debut (Tiger In Your Tank), and have been nominated three times for a JUNO Award, winning the award twice for Blues Album of the Year in 2012 for To Behold and in 2018 for Time To Roll.
A bit about BLUE ROOM – The core musicians are veteran live and studio players, featuring: Brian Neller’s big, bluesy, passionate vocals; Fraser Lawrason’s solid bass lines and backing vocals; Paul Sanderson’s soaring blues rock guitar; Norm Ryan’s fluid and inspired saxophone and Pat Quinn’s seasoned drum grooves. Blue Room was a finalist in the 1997 Toronto Blues Society Talent Search, runner-up in 1998, and second runner-up in 2000! Since 1997, the band has played in major blues venues around Toronto, including the Silver Dollar Room, The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern, and Chicago’s. Sharing the bill with the likes of John Hammond and Jully Black, BLUE ROOM has also played the JVC Jazz Festival, The Beaches International Jazz Festival, First Night Toronto at the SkyDome, and Lloyd’s Blues Music Festival, featuring B.B. King, and Buddy Guy.
A bit about VOODOO Pawn Shop – This quartet delivers ‘In Your Face Blues’ by pawning old blues standards and reassembling new blues stylings with an edge. Mirek Lalas on keys, Paul Murray on drums & backing vocals, Rafael Minassian on bass & backing vocals, Ted Wright on lead vocals & harmonica and Wolf Endicher on lead guitar, this collaborative delivers blues-with-an-edge. Influences include Eric Clapton, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonamassa, Buddy Guy, Cream, ZZ TOP, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and countless others.
A bit about SPENCER MACKENZIE – ‘New Artist of the Year’ Maple Blues Award winner, Spencer MacKenzie, has an insightful musical expression emerging from his body and the only explanation is an old soul residing within! He has a deep, soulful, true to the blues sound, with an electrifying twist that captivates his audience.
His drive and work ethic goes beyond that of the typical teenager. Countless hours are spent song writing and travelling each week performing on the blues scene earning praise everywhere he performs. He toured his new album with Miles Evans on keys, Matt Burns on drums and Justine Fischer on bass, to many prestigious festivals including Thunderbay Blues Festival, Paisley Blues festival, Tremblant International Blues Festival, Donnacona Blues Festival, Trois-Rivieres en Blues, Southside Shuffle, Sarnia Jazz and Blues in the Village, and many more.
Spencer’s awards include: Blues Artist Of The Year / 2017 Niagara Music Awards, New Artist Of The Year / 2016 Maple Blues Awards, International Songwriting Competition / 2016 3rd Place Winner Blues Category, Toronto Blues Society Talent Search / 2016 Winner
