Loco Zydeco – February 17, 2012 – SOLD OUT

Location: The Waterfront Bistro, Pickering, Ontario

The French Quarter came to Frenchman’s Bay for a second time at the Music By The Bay Live Mardi Gras Party. Loco Zydeco pumped up a SOLD OUT crowd, getting them moving in their seats, onto the dance floor and joining them on stage to try their hand at the rubboard … and yes, there were beads … plenty of beads!

MonkeyJunk- January 20, 2012 – SOLD OUT

Location: The Waterfront Bistro, Pickering, Ontario

Who needs a bass?  Not Ottawa’s MonkeyJunk.  Playing to another SOLD OUT crowd at The Waterfront were Tony D on guitars, percussionist Matt and Steve Marriner on vocals, harmonica and guitar.

In January,MonkeyJunk walked away with another 3 Maple Blues Awards for Electric Act of the Year, Recording of the Year and Drummer of the Year.

Paul Reddick Band- November 25, 2011 – SOLD OUT

Paul Reddick has been a musical force on harmonica since he began playing at age 15, and remains a commanding presence at the forefront of today’ blues scene.  It was the 16th SOLD OUT show in the Music By The Bay Live Small Club BIG SHOW Concert Series.

Matt Andersen– September 9, 2011 – SOLD OUT

If you missed his opening act for the Legendary Buddy Guy at Massey Hall, or his two sold-shows at the Glenn Gould Studio, ticket holders were very lucky indeed to see Matt Andersen perform to a sold out crowd at the Small Club BIG SHOW Concert Series in Pickering. He is dynamic and passionate about singing and playing and has built a national fanbase. Andersen doesn’t open up shows anymore, he headlines.

Matt Andersen is a man who lives and loves the music and never wants to stop picking.

Jimmy Bowskill Band– June 17, 2011 – SOLD OUT

Location: The Waterfront Bistro, Pickering, Ontario

Jimmy Bowskill is at home on the stage. It would be one thing if Jimmy Bowskill just sang with the amazing range, tone and passion that he does. It would be another thing if he just played guitar like a virtuoso. The fact that he does both is astonishing. Bowskill was incredible and his band, Ian Mckeown (bass), Dan Reiff (drums) was on point and have a synergy that is rare.The surprise of the night was an opener named Steve Puchalski backed up by Jimmy Bowskill on bass, Ian Mckeown on drums and Adam White playing lap steel. Morgan Davis – May 6, 2011 – SOLD OUT

Braithwaite & Whiteley – February 18, 2011 – SOLD OUT

Location: The Waterfront Bistro, Pickering, Ontario

The mood was explosive and the emphasis was clearly geared to delivering the dance-friendly room a Wang Dang Doodle All Night Long! Diana Braithwaite, Chris Whiteley & Band performed for rockin’ blues fans, in a room filled to capacity. Special thanks to Jesse Whiteley (keyboard), and Maple Blues Award Winners Gary Kendall (bass) and Mike Fitzpatrick (drums) of Downchild Blues Band who joined the dynamic duo. The 15th show presented by Music By The Bay Live can be chalked up as another great night for this popular series.

Carlos del Junco – January 21, 2011 – SOLD OUT

The first show of 2011 kicked off with a high-energy start, fronted by multi award winning harmonica player Carlos del Junco who was joined by Henry Heillig on bass & Eric St. Laurent on guitar. Together they delivered a rocking set of blues and jazz tunes and after a short break, returned to the stage and continued at a relentless pace in front of a great crowd.

Rick Taylor – November 19, 2010

Wow! Rick Taylor put on quite a performance and a full house of blues fans, many seeing the band for the first time, saw and heard what all the fuss was about with this professional band of players. Jack de Keyzer – September 17, 2010 – SOLD OUT

Music By The Bay Live celebrated the first show of the 2nd season with a sold out performance by multi award winner Jack de Keyzer. Joining him on stage was David McMorrow (organ, piano), Richard Thornton (tenor sax, conga), Alan Duffy (bass) and Rick Donaldson (drums). The Jack de Keyzer Band played to a packed dance floor and full house of blues fans, many seeing the band for the first time. With great songs, great musicianship, passionate singing and playing, it was the essence of modern blues. De Keyzer truly, sings the strings.

Rita Chiarelli – June 3, 2010 – SOLD OUT

Location: The Waterfront Bistro, Pickering, Ontario

Music By The Bay Live celebrated the final show of the first season with a sold out performance by Rita Chiarelli, “The Canadian Goddess of the Blues”. This multi award winner and 4–time Juno nominee has played the top blues rooms, music festivals and concert halls around the world and it was rare indeed for a Pickering audience to be treated to this level of soul. Joining Chiarelli on stage was guitarist Papa John King who wowed the crowd with a night of straight ahead and raw blues.

Michael Pickett – May 6, 2010

‘One of Canada’s top acoustic blues artists, Michael Pickett, played a night of delta style blues to a full house. With only his rack harmonica, sweet worn Gibson 12–string and a one–of–a–kind 1931 Duolian, the crowd heard why this multi award winner and 2x Juno nominee has been called a “one man blues machine”. Opening the show was James Brand who performed a set of acoustic roots and blues, honest and true to life’s experiences.

Suzie Vinnick – March 11, 2010

‘Guitar woman’ Suzie Vinnick was also a lady who sang the blues to a full house. Her powerful yet sensitive voice whispered, cried, soared with joy and blasted you out of your seat – sometimes all in the same song. The music itself was a unique blend of folk, country and blues. Combined with her amazing guitar chops, Vinnick is just a blue note or two away from turning into a legend. Jill Jambor performed the opening set. The intimacy of her live performance best represented her songs –– relating to the ‘the folk’ by displaying easy rapport with the audience between songs.

David Gogo – January 22, 2010 – SOLD OUT

Location: The Waterfront Bistro, Pickering, Ontario

With the first note David Gogo became a powerful force of pure, raw guitar magic. He snapped and stretched strings into submission, making notes sting and screech, his fingers scaled the frets of his guitar on a mission from the blues. The audience expressed its appreciation with shouts, whistles and applause and by the end of the night, knew they’d just witnessed a world class guitarist ply his craft. Opening the show was Jack Walker performing melodic, catchy and utterly compelling songs from his soon to be released CD.

Very special thanks to Deb & Jim Broomer of Legend Music who donated a white Flying V electric guitar. In addition to the funds raised through ticket sales, CD sales and everyone who gave generously, the proceeds from the Flying V silent auction were raised for Haitian Relief. MUSIC BY THE BAY LIVE has donated $1100 through World Vision.
